Second Opinion
After careful consideration, my wife and I decided to seek a second opinion at Tung's Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital. I was determined to explore all available options to preserve my testicle, fearing potential future regret.
We scheduled an appointment with Dr. Weng Wei Jun and provided detailed information about my hernia surgery and current condition. I also demonstrated the location of my testicle and spermatic tube.
During the examination, the doctor was surprised to find my testicle positioned lower than expected following my description. While it was significantly elevated compared to normal, it hadn't fully entered the inguinal canal like some other patients.
The doctor's assessment was that my condition was stable and advised against further intervention. He shared a case of a similar patient whose condition worsened after surgery and explained a procedure used for undescended testicles in children that he believed wouldn't be beneficial in my case. He also noted that laparoscopic surgery is more common today, making cases like mine less frequent.
I expressed concern about the ongoing numbness and soreness in the surgical area. The doctor reassured me that sensation might return over time.
He suggested that the actual hernia surgery itself was successful, aside from the testicle issue.
I again pointed out the unusual placement of my spermatic tube and showed him the diagram I had drawn. The doctor confirmed that inflammation could be causing the shrinkage, even for a relatively large distance. He suggested trying to gently pull down on the testicle during showers to see if it would help.
I also discussed the medications I was taking, which were causing fatigue. The doctor recommended discontinuing the prostate medication if I didn't have any related issues to the prostate and reducing the antiplatelet medication to two pills per day.
After a thorough discussion lasting approximately 30 minutes, the doctor concluded that nothing could be done and I should leave it as it is.

Although the doctor assessed my testicle as stable, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was still shrinking. I knew the doctor recommended to do nothing, but I couldn't help wondering if they were hesitant to intervene due to concerns about a potential negative outcome. Despite this, I was grateful for the doctor's time and consideration. The doctor's mention of the widespread use of laparoscopic surgery made me question whether a traditional surgical approach might have been wrong choice in my case.
