Final Thoughts
I know that choosing Dr. Yang Yao Kun for my hernia surgery was a grave mistake, and I deeply regret that decision.
It feels like I've aged over 20 years since the surgery. I've lost hair, my energy levels have plummeted, and I’m in constant pain, with soreness in my testicles. Although I was a bit overweight, I always considered myself reasonably healthy—I regularly went to the gym and took care of my body. I never anticipated that a poorly performed hernia repair could lead to such drastic changes in my life.
It's astonishing to realize that someone I hardly know has had such a significant impact on my life, but I suppose that’s a common experience for many victims.
It’s already devastating for a man to lose a testicle to cancer, but losing a healthy one through no fault of my own is even more painful.
Here are the mistakes I’ve identified:
Attached are the ultrasound images, organized by date, to illustrate the progression of testicle atrophy.
26th Dec 2023 - Testicle Length 43mm
2nd Apr 2024 - Testicle Length 30.5mm
14th May 2024 - Testicle Length 25.8mm
4th Oct 2024 - Testicle Length 16.3mm

At this point, I can only speculate that testicular atrophy will persist until minimal testicular tissue remains. I've reviewed other cases that closely resemble my ischemic orchitis.

It's somewhat disheartening that the journal states early detection and treatment of ischemic orchitis can prevent this serious complication. I did everything I could.
Ultimately, if I had done nothing after the surgery—taken no medication, undergone no scans, or sought opinions from multiple doctors—I would still find myself in the same position: facing the loss of a testicle and enduring chronic pain.

Here are the mistakes I’ve identified:
- Unnecessary Surgery: The doctor should have assessed whether I actually needed the surgery. Knowing that I only had some discomfort, I think it would have been better for them to advise me to wait for any surgery.
- Misguided Surgical Choice: When asked which was better laparoscopic or traditional, the surgeons regard as little difference was very incorrect and laparoscopic was clearly the better approach.
- Inadequate Risk Explanation: The doctor didn't explain the risks associated with the surgery to the correct extent.
- Unauthorized Surgery: The doctor performed a surgery which was not agreed upon. I requested non-mesh he performed a mesh surgery.
- Delayed Diagnosis: After the surgery, when my testicle began to swell in the hospital, a Doppler ultrasound should have been performed to assess blood flow. Even after blood flow issues were suspected during my follow-up visit, no Doppler ultrasound was conducted. Instead, only an imaging of the testicle was done to evaluate the cause of the swelling. This scan was only conducted months later, at my request, which delayed any necessary treatments.
- Damaged Spermatic Cord: During the procedure the spermatic cord was damaged leading to testicle atrophy.
- Nerve Damage: Nerves have been damaged in the groin area resulting in loss of sensation and chronic pain the groin area.
