Due to the severe pain and significantly diminished quality of life following my hernia surgery, I sought another opinion at Wei De General Hospital. There, I met with Dr. Zhang Jing An and recounted my unsuccessful surgical experience.
I presented my diagram depicting the abnormally positioned testicle and asked if it's possible the spermatic cord was twisted or misaligned during surgery. The doctor examined the diagram and said the possibility of a coiled cord is very unlikely, suggesting that damage to the cord itself might have caused its shrinkage and loss of elasticity.
I also explained that my left, supposedly healthy, testicle was experiencing significant pain, softness, and swelling. I also suspected a varicocele issue and provided a video I had recorded to visually demonstrate the condition's characteristic 'bag of worms' appearance, particularly noticeable in the evening after a shower.
Dr. Yang acknowledged the possibility of varicocele surgery but cautioned against it in my case, given that I only had one functional testicle. He explained that the surgery could potentially lead to testicular atrophy, similar to what had occurred in my right testicle after the hernia surgery. Additionally, he advised that I consider freezing my sperm if I planned to have children in the future.
I expressed concern about the ongoing shrinkage of my testicle and inquired about potential testosterone levels. Dr. Yang reassured me that one testicle should be sufficient for normal testosterone production but agreed to order a blood test for my peace of mind.
To further assess the condition of my testicle, Dr. Yang ordered an ultrasound to examine blood flow and a urine test to rule out infection. His primary goal was to improve my quality of life. I shared my struggles with daily activities, such as playing with my son or preparing meals, due to the persistent pain. Despite trying over-the-counter pain relievers, I found little relief. Dr. Yang suggested an alternative medication to help manage my discomfort.
The medication prescribed was: TRACETON (Tramadol/acetaminophen pain relief)
