This is the man who has taken so much away from me. He performed a surgery I did not consent to and inserted a piece of plastic (mesh) into my body, damaging the nerves and blood vessels to my testicle in the process. I had clearly told Dr. Yang Yao Kun beforehand that I did not want mesh used, yet he went ahead and did it anyway.

His incompetence and lack of experience in performing this type of inguinal hernia repair have left me with constant pain and serious mental health issues. It has now been almost two years since that fateful surgery, and I am still suffering. The surgical site remains painful, and the constant sensation of my testicle being squeezed never goes away.

Because of this man’s actions, I now have to take blood circulation medication, strong painkillers, and antidepressants. While medication can dull the pain, the discomfort—especially when walking—never fully disappears. Having a high-riding, hardened testicle with excess skin between my legs makes walking extremely uncomfortable. Although there has been slight improvement in the numbness around my groin, I don’t believe I will ever return to normal, especially after this length of time.

Before the surgery, my hernia caused no pain, only a mild feeling of pressure. We agreed on one type of procedure, but he performed a different one despite my clear instructions not to. Since then, my quality of life has been destroyed. I miss the simple pleasures I used to enjoy, like having a glass of wine with a meal, something I can no longer do because of medication interactions. Long walks have become too uncomfortable, especially in warmer weather. Riding a bicycle is now impossible due to the pain from the seat pressing against my testicles. I am now forced to wear supportive underwear to manage the pain, instead of being able to wear normal underwear comfortably.

I used to be a healthy, active 47-year-old man who went to the gym regularly. Now, I am an angry, frustrated man living with chronic pain and emotional distress—all because I was betrayed by a doctor I trusted.

"I want my old life back."

When a man undergoes what is described as a simple, routine hernia surgery—something everyone says is nothing to worry about—he never expects to wake up having lost a healthy testicle and with a piece of plastic implanted in his body, causing permanent irritation and discomfort. All of this happened without any warning or indication that the doctor would take such actions. It’s understandable that any man would suffer serious mental distress after such an experience.

In my opinion, Dr. Yang Yao Kun is a poor surgeon whose confidence far exceeds his actual skill and who gave poor medical advice. Choosing him to perform my hernia repair was the worst decision of my life, one I will regret forever, as it can never be undone.

Thoughts
It has now been almost three years since that fateful surgery, and I have consulted numerous doctors in both Taiwan and overseas. The consensus is that Yang Yao Kun used far too many stitches during the procedure, with one stitch passing directly through the spermatic cord, causing serious damage and loss of blood flow to the testicle.

I have also been advised that every additional stitch used to secure the mesh increases the risk of developing chronic pain. Doctors who have reviewed the images taken during my surgery have expressed concern about the excessive number of stitches used to secure the mesh, particularly given how small my hernia was.

The consequences of this surgery have been devastating, and the damage I have suffered cannot simply be reversed. I have spent almost three years seeking medical advice and trying to understand how this happened. The decision to use so many stitches to secure the mesh, including placing a stitch directly through the spermatic cord, raises serious questions about Yang Yao Kun's surgical technique.
